AIHA Chesapeake Local Section Board Nominations 2016

The current Chesapeake Local Section board would like to thank everyone for their help and support in making 2015 a great year!

In preparation for 2016 we are are looking to hold our annual elections in early January.

We are currently accepting self nominations for the following board positions:

President Elect

  • A three year commitment
  • Progression of role: President Elect, President, Past President
  • Lead the Local Section
  • Organize PDCs, Speakers, Networking Events, and other learning opportunities.


  • One year commitment
  • Manage local section finances


  • One year commitment
  • Manage local section mailing list and communications
  • Record board meeting minutes


Complete the Self Nomination for the Chesapeake Local Section of AIHA Board of Directors and submit to by January 8th 2016

All Local Section Board Members must be in good standing with AIHA National and the local section.

Election ballots will be distributed January 11th,2016 and will be accepted until January 20, 2016.

AIHce 2016 Baltimore Conference

May 23-26, 2016

AIHce 2016 Conference planning is officially underway!  To get the process started, we are seeking volunteer assistance from our local section membership. .


We are seeking local section volunteer coordinators for the following tasks:

  • Technical Tours
  • Opening Session Video
  • Opening Session Entertainment
  • Fun Run Volunteer
  • Local Conference Committee Hospitality
  • Opening Session Honor Guard/National Anthem Singer
  • Opening Session Dignitary
  • Session Scanning Volunteers

We are preparing the volunteer coordinator roster to submit to AIHA.  Please provide your name, title, organization, address, phone numbers and e-mail address and the position for which you are volunteering. Volunteer assignments will be made on a first come, first served basis.  If you are not interested in being a coordinator and want to volunteer to support a task, please let us know.


Can you provide a technical tour of specific value or interest to an IH?  We are seeking up to 6 tours lasting 3-4 hours including travel time. Tours are scheduled for the morning and afternoons of May 23-25, 2016 and the morning of May 26, 2016. There should be no financial obligation to AIHA.  The tour should ideally accommodate 40 participants (30-50 is acceptable).  Deadline for technical tour submittal to AIHA is November 20th.

Half Day PDC on Aerosol Sampling and Analytical Methods (with Breakfast)

Thursday, November 19, 2015 – 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM


Presented by Martin Harper, PhD, NIOSH

Please join us for a 4-hour course on aerosol sampling and analytical methods with the following content:

  • History of aerosol sampling
  • Sampling conventions and exposure limits
  • Inhalable/Thoracic/Respirable sampling and samplers
  • Specific issues:
    •  “Total” and “inhalable” sampling
    •  High flow-rate sampling for silica
    •  New NIOSH methods for mineral acids

Issues of analytical procedures and quality assurance will be discussed as they relate to the selection of sampling methods. In addition, there will be short discussions on recent developments in other topics of interest, such as metalworking fluids, isocyanates, semi-volatiles (pesticides and PAHs), ultrafine sampling and biological aerosols.


About the Presenter:
Dr. Martin Harper is Chief of the Exposure Assessment Branch in the Health Effects Laboratory Division of NIOSH in Morgantown, WV, where he has worked for the past 12 years. He has degrees and diplomas in geology, environmental science, pollution control, analytical chemistry and occupational health. He is a CIH and Fellow of the AIHA; he is also a Chartered Chemist and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. He has taught in the industrial hygiene programs of the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the University of the West Indies and has a current adjunct appointment at West Virginia University. He has presented many professional development courses in the USA and in 22 other countries.

Cost:  (includes hot breakfast): $40 students, $50 members, $75 non-members*

*For $25, non-members can purchase local section membership for remainder of 2015 calendar year AND all of 2016.
